The In-Space Manufacturing market is likely to see an increase in collaborations and partnerships among space agencies, private companies, and research institutions. Joint efforts can pool resources, share expertise, and accelerate the development of in-space manufacturing technologies. Collaborations may involve partnerships between space agencies and private companies, international collaborations, or collaborations between companies with complementary capabilities.
In June 2023, NASA announced its plan to collaborate with seven U.S. companies to address both commercial and government requirements, with a focus on enhancing human spaceflight and bolstering the U.S. commercial low Earth orbit economy. The Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities-2 initiative (CCSC-2) employs unfunded Space Act Agreements. It aims to propel commercial space endeavors by leveraging NASA's technical expertise, assessments, lessons learned, technologies, and data. This structured sharing of NASA's knowledge requires minimal government resources while actively fostering the essential capabilities for the development of a resilient low-Earth orbit economy.
