For example, in October 2023, Total Energies transformed plastic waste materials into circular polymers for the first time at its polypropylene plant in La Porte, Texas. The plant, one of the largest polypropylene plants in the world, produces sustainably certified polymers for various applications, including food packaging.
However, concerns about the quality and performance of recycled polymers are holding back the market. Differences in material properties and processing methods of recycled polymers can lead to inconsistencies that do not always meet the strict requirements of the end use. This limitation prevents the widespread adoption of ring polymers in several industries and product segments where performance standards are critical.
