For instance, in August 2023, Burlington unveiled Vermont's first all-electric bucket truck, marking an important step toward the city’s transition to Net Zero Energy. The electric bucket truck will reduce Burlington Electric Department's (BED) annual diesel fuel usage by an estimated 1,650 gallons and reduce engine idling by 1,500 hours. It has a driving range of 110-115 miles and can idle for seven hours per workday while providing sufficient power to operate the aerial boom and bucket (55 feet high from ground to the base of the bucket and 60 feet working height) on a single charge.
